Cotton futures posted gains of 24 to 33 points in the actively traded contracts today. NASS showed that 91% of the cotton crop had bolls setting as of Sunday, with 21% of the bolls opening vs. the 18% average. TX has 20% of the bolls opening, ahead of the 18% average. US condition ratings on the Brugler500 index were 10 points higher this week at 315. That happened despite worse conditions in the three largest producing states. Texas, GA, and MS all saw deteriorating conditions of 31, 12, and 8 Brugler500 Index points respectively. US cotton acreage in 2019 is estimated at 13.8 million acres according to a Farm Futures survey. The Cotlook A index was down 75 points from the previous day at 91.40 cents/lb on August 24. The weekly AWP is 73.83 cents/lb, good through Thursday.
