Live cattle futures are mixed on Tuesday, with front months slightly lower and deferred contracts higher. Feeder cattle futures are also mixed with nearby contracts down a nickel to 35 cents. The CME feeder cattle index was down 59 cents on March 2 at $145.44. Wholesale boxed beef values were higher on Tuesday morning. Choice boxes were up 9 cents at $223.32, with Select boxes $0.54 higher at $215.38. Estimated FI cattle slaughter was 119,000 head on Monday, up 2,000 head from last week and 5,000 head larger than the same week in 2017. Wednesday’s FCE online auction is showing 474 head of cattle for sale, mainly from KS and TX.

Aug 18 Cattle are at $112.800, down $0.325,

Mar 18 Feeder Cattle are at $145.100, down $0.050

May 18 Feeder Cattle are at $147.625, down $0.050
